Sex, Houses, and Rock & Roll

Originally posted on December 17/2006 on "Allison Wonderland (Livejournal)"

There are advantages to living in a basement apartment. We have access to a big yard, the driveway's not too far away... I guess that's about it. I like our place. It's small, but it's nice. Still, there are distinct disadvantages to our current situation.

Take, for example, the way noise travels in an old house. Right now I'm listening to the music H. has on upstairs. She likes to play her music loud- and often late. We were puzzled by her apparent need to do this several times a week, until at last the mystery was solved. Last week AJ (aka The Hubby) was about to go up to ask her to turn it down- he had just put the little guy to bed. He stopped, though, when he heard a loud, long mooooooaaaaaaan. And another. And an "oh... oh... OHHHHH!"

Aha.

The music is so we don't hear the sex. Good call. We know from experience that the music is preferable; in the last basement we lived in, we heard the goings on upstairs on almost a nightly basis. At first I had wondered what our land-lady saw in her boyfriend; after we heard the "Thursday Night Sex Show", I knew. He must have been really good...

So now we have the music instead. That's fine. I just wish she'd turn it down when they're done- I like Keith Urban, but I don't need to hear his voice thudding through the ceiling at 11:30 pm.
